A number on its own means minutes. Written English quantities work too: “five days, three hours, forty-five minutes and thirty seconds” means 5d 3h 45m 30s. Case, commas, and “and” are accepted. Numbers can use words through millions, including hundred and thousand groups, within the same timer-duration limit. This is a local parser, not a general natural-language or AI service. Short units are s, m, h, d, and w. You can combine them: 1h20m or 5 days 3 hours. A duration such as 4 days means 96 hours from now. A timer can last from 1 second to 315576000 seconds (about 10 years).

Each tab runs independently. A new tab starts fresh; reloading resumes that tab’s timer. Preferences and recent durations are shared across this browser. Pause, resume, reset, and a distraction-free focus view are built in. The countdown uses a deadline and catches up after a delayed browser update. Keep the tab open for an alarm. Browsers need a click before sound can play: click Test alarm. A URL starts the countdown immediately even when audio is not enabled. The sound control says Sound is on or Sound is off; Enable sound means the browser still needs interaction. Completion also shows a visual alert: two slow screen-edge pulses over 4.8 seconds, followed by a steady highlight until Dismiss alert. Reduce Motion skips the pulses. Dismissing clears the alert and stops audio without restarting the countdown.

The Stopwatch tab counts up with three millisecond digits by default, for example 00:12.100. Its Milliseconds on/off button only changes the display; pause and resume retain the elapsed precision.

Use Space to start/pause, R to reset, F for focus view, C to copy the timer link (Timer mode), and Escape to leave focus view or silence a ringing alarm. Shortcuts do not run while typing or while a dialog is open.

## Share a direct timer

For an ordinary request, give the person a clickable direct link, for example [Start a 5-minute timer](https://eggtimer.app/5m). A direct link starts a fresh local countdown; it is not a synchronized room. No account is required.
